Panel on Biological Hazards
The Panel on Biological Hazards assesses issues on microbiological food hygiene, contamination of food by human pathogen microorganisms and transmissible spongiform encephalopathies. The Panel also assesses the development of resistance against antimicrobials and disinfectants including transmission of resistance genes to pathogenic microorganisms.
Unless comprehensive steps are taken to tackle Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), it will continue to spread within the Norwegian cervid population. The disease will not disappear by itself. This is the main conclusion of a new risk assessment report published by the Norwegian Scientific Committee for food safety (VKM).
The Norwegian Food Safety Authority (NFSA) has requested the Norwegian Scientific Committee for food safety (VKM) to conduct a risk assessment of the link between antimicrobial resistance and the content of potentially toxic metals in soil and fertilising products.
