The Norwegian Scientific Committee for Food Safety (VKM) will evaluate the intake of copper and selenium in the Norwegian population
VKM has been asked by the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (NFSA) to make calculations for all age groups aged one year and over.
Terms of reference
VKM has been requested by the NFSA to calculate the intake of copper and selenium from the diet for all age groups in the population aged one year and over (mean, median, P5, P95).
VKM are also asked to make scenario estimations to illustrate the consequences of amending maximum limits for copper (eg to 1 - 3 - 4 mg / day) and selenium (eg to 50 – 150 - 200 μg / day) in food supplements.
The scenarios will be evaluated against already established tolerable upper intake levels.
National maximum limits
The NFSA will evaluate the national maximum limits for copper and selenium in the food supplement regulation.
The VKM Panel on Nutrition, Dietetic Products, Novel Food and Allergy is responsible for the assessments.
The assessments is most likely to be published in May 2017.
