Panel on Animal Health and Welfare
The Panel carries out risk assessments on animal health and welfare, with particular focus on food-producing animals, including both farmed and wild fish.
Do animals that are subjected to electric shocks experience unnecessary strains, such as discomfort, pain, stress or fear? The Norwegian Food Safety Authority (NFSA) requests the Norwegian Scientific Committee for Food Safety (VKM) to summarize knowledge on how equipment that uses electric shocks affects animal welfare.
Unless comprehensive steps are taken to tackle Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), it will continue to spread within the Norwegian cervid population. The disease will not disappear by itself. This is the main conclusion of a new risk assessment report published by the Norwegian Scientific Committee for food safety (VKM).
